Grades 2-5 This enthusiastic and optimistic introduction to robots and artificial intelligence concentrates on the helpful benefits of this rapidly evolving area. Visually enticing pages are filled with bright illustrations, paragraph-length informational captions, word bubbles, and insets that convey accessible definitions and explanations of basic robotics concepts and applications. The text is energetic and engaging, whether enumerating all the tasks robots can perform (including dangerous, dirty, and stinky jobs), discussing how some robots have been modeled after animals who are especially good at jumping (grasshoppers), or showing examples of current and future robots participating in activities as diverse as disaster rescue, room service, and stand-up comedy. There's an entire section debunking sensational claims (robots are stealing our jobs! Robots are bent on world domination!). There's a lot of useful information tucked into the alluring spreads. Kids will be entertained, informed, reassured, and inspired. No references or bibliography, but this introductory STEM overview still does a fine job of revving up interest and sparking imagination for both kids and their grown-ups.
